Almost all of the barriers to their happiness are external, due to the war between the British and the French. The actual romance between Morgan and Amalie is fairly straightforward. To his credit, Morgan does struggle with these issues too and I think that is what saved this from becoming a big issue for me. On the other hand, I think I have a very old fashioned notion of honor.
